CADCAI Chinese New Year Greetings

Updated: Mar 1

Xin Nian Kuai Le, Gong Xi Fa Cai 新年快乐,恭喜发财。

On behalf of the CADCAI committee, I wish all our members, friends and supporters are very happy year of the fire horse.

Our Chinese New Year Celebrations are off and racing with the energy of a racehorse. This year the program is packed full of colour, noise and excited. Events have included a street food festival at the Hilton Cairns, Lunar New Year Day performances, our annual CNY Banquet and several cultural performances across our city. We have welcomed back many longtime supporters and some new sponsors and event partners. We thank all our funding partners and sponsors for their generosity and support.

The biggest celebration is the Lantern Festival to be held at the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon Plaza on Saturday 7 March from 4:30pm to 8:30pm with cultural performances and a fireworks finale. This is a great opportunity to share Chinese culture with the city of Cairns, just as many Chinese settlers did 150 years ago in Sachs Street. If you are interested in volunteering to help at stalls or with the lantern festival event, please get in contact with our Secretary, Tiffany Turnour.

A big thank you to Lai Chu Chan, the committee, our performance teams, Sharon Sou and the many volunteers that are making the year of the horse celebrations a great success. We acknowledge the event grant funding received from Cairns Regional Council and the Australian Government.
